In This Course, You Will Learn:

BREATH MECHANICS & PHYSIOLOGY

Understanding the anatomy of breathing is fundamental to safe and effective pranayama. We’ll explore the diaphragm, respiratory muscles, and how breath impacts the body’s systems. By gaining a deeper knowledge of breath mechanics, you’ll be able to guide students through breathing techniques with greater precision and safety.

TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES

Discover foundational pranayama practices, including Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing), Kapalabhati (Skull Shining Breath), and Bhramari (Humming Bee Breath). Each technique will be practiced, broken down, and discussed to ensure proper technique and understanding of its purpose and benefits.

ADDING PRANAYAMA TO YOUR YOGA CLASSES

Learn practical methods to seamlessly weave pranayama into your teaching. We’ll explore when and how to introduce breathwork within asana flows, meditation sessions, and standalone pranayama practices, empowering you to create well-rounded, breath-centered classes that leave students feeling balanced and energized.

NERVOUS SYSTEM REGULATION

Learn how different pranayama practices can stimulate the parasympathetic or sympathetic nervous system, promoting relaxation or activation as needed. We’ll discuss how breathwork can be a powerful tool to help students regulate stress, manage anxiety, and cultivate resilience.

PRANAYAMA SEQUENCING

Gain practical insights into sequencing pranayama practices for classes, workshops, or individual sessions. We’ll look at how to introduce pranayama in a way that meets students where they are, offering modifications and progressions for different levels of experience and comfort with breathwork.

VARIATIONS & SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

Pranayama can have profound effects on the body and mind, so understanding when and how to modify techniques is essential. We’ll discuss contraindications, adaptations for various health conditions, and how to guide students in pacing and self-awareness to ensure a safe experience.

Lindsay Monal

Lindsay is an ERYT-500 and YACEP® who completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training at Hosh Yoga, and her 300hr Yoga Teacher Training at ISHTA Yoga in New York City. She is a Usui Reiki Master, and has completed additional training in Yin Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yoga Nidra, Laughter Yoga, Sound Meditation, and Yoga for Trauma, and Addiction.
